In September 2022 I undertook a 2 week residency for Insert Studios on the theme of 'Queer Joy'. The work I created includes traditional forms of protest art such as banners and posters with a focus on physical methods of making such as sewing and screen printing.
The two screenprinted pieces 'queer joy is a radical act' and 'queer love is beautiful' explore a more personal response to the theme of queer joy, showing a vulnerable self portrait of the myself and a depiction of a queer relationship exploring asexuality and non sexual romantic relationships.
The two large fabric banners are a nod to traditional forms of protest and the importance protest art has played in the journey of queer joy and liberation in the UK.
